IntroductionMeet up with three Japanese craftsmen, the experts on Tatami making, Indigo Dyer, and Sake making.
Journey out from Tokyo to the suburbs of Saitama, where there are historical factories and traditional crafts that have been handed down for the past 100 years.
This is a walking tour which the guide will take you to three different factories in Saitama. First you will visit a Tatami Factory, then to Senshoku(Indigo Dying) Factory, and lastly to the Sake Brewery with an English speaking guide.
You will take a tour of the traditional Japanese factories with the craftsman and learn about Japanese traditional crafts in more depth.
In the end of tour, relax in a traditional Japanese tatami room and enjoy tasting Sake with the Sake brewery owners welcoming you with Japanese hospitality.
About Miyazaki Tatami Shop (Tatami Factory)
Mr.Miyazaki is the owner of the Tatami Factory, who has been awarded many titles for his techniques.
Miyazaki Tatami Shop is a small Tatami Factory in Saitama where Mr. Miyazaki makes all tatami products by hands.
Observe the tatami factory and learn how to make Tatami from Mr. Miyazaki.
About Kojima Senshoku Kojo (Dyeing Factory)
Mr.Kojima dedicates himself into Aizome(Indigo Dying) and crafts. He is the owner of the Senshoku Factory, which has a history of over 140 years.
Kojima Senshoku Factory was founded in 1872 by Kumahei Kojima. Their main business lies in the manufacture of specialize kendo uniform and traditional clothes worn at festivals.
He aims to create and develop the natural beauty of Indigo dying.
You will have a factory tour with Mr.Kojima, the owner of the factory, and learn how Aizome (the Japanese Indigo dyeing) has been developed and the process of Aizome up close.
About Gonda Shuzo (Sake Brewery)
Mr.Gonda is the 6th generation of the Sake Brewery. With Mrs.Gonda, they will welcome you and give you a heartwarming Japanese "Omotenashi".
The Gonda Shuzo was founded in this area in 1850, during the late Edo period, where the age-old sake brewing process has been honored and inherited.
Mr.Gonda's hope is to develop a rich local sake and get connected with local people in Kumagaya town.
During the tour Mr.Gonda will show you inside of his Sake Brewery and explain to you the process of sake making.
You will be able to have a up close and personal look of the factory, along with tasting of different kinds of Sake.
Please indulge yourself in tasty local sake with local people and relax at old Japanese house.
The tour concludes at Kumagaya Station, the nearest station to Gonda Shuzo.
