Observe Japanese Knife Forging with Experienced Swordsmith near Kyoto



This program is 2 hours visiting the swordsmith work shop, offered by Asano Taro. Asano, certified by the Japanese government, is one of the few genuine Japanese swordsmiths still practicing his craft today.

There are about 300 people who can make a Japanese knife in Japan. However only 10 percent of them can make a living as a swordsmith. To be a exquisite swords craftworkers, it takes about 10 years and need to study hard.

In this experience, you will be able to observe unique technics, Japanese traditions and a sophisticated craftsman at work. Touching typical tools used to craft swords is definitely a good experience. Any questions you have will be assisted. Please enjoy having a conversation with Asano. You might be able to hear some historical episodes about Japanese swords. If you're craving for more Japanese culture, then this program will be for you.
