Historical Walking Tour of Otsu City with Famous Woodcraft's Workshop tour near Kyoto

Introduction

With this tour you will be exploring the historical area of the Shiga Prefecture's Sakamoto area, highly known for Hieizan Enryakuji which was designated as a World Heritage Historic Monuments of Ancient Kyoto in 1994. This area was famous for the harsh buddhist training where Buddhist monk would have to walk for 1000 Days to complete their training.
You will also be visiting the Nakagawa Woodcrafting Workshop, where you will be able to interact with a craftsman that has been acknowledged by Dom Pérignon to make its' official champagne cooler, and many other outstanding wood crafts. Here you will be able to interact with the craftsman and watch demonstrations of their work.

If you have some time in Kyoto why don't you explore the Otsu city and take in the historical culture and it's magnificent wood crafts. Only here will you have an in-depth view of a traditional Japanese woodcraft.

For your information:
Widely known in the Otsu city Sakamoto area is the story of the Hiei Mountain's "1000 Day Mountain Walking Training".

The buddhist monk will walk around the mountains visiting 300 of the holy areas. Every day the monk would walk 48 km, for 1000 days. Even if the monk is injured, sick, and in the harshest weather the monk must continue with his training. If the monk cannot continue with this training they would have to commit suicide. 

Only a few have overcame this training, and at the Sakamoto area at the Jiganji Temple is a monk who has lived to tell his story.

Nakagawa Woodcrafting Workshop
This traditional woodcraft has been passed down from 700 years. This beautiful crafts has even caught the eye of Dom Pérignon and also Louis Vuitton, making collaboration work in the past.
