Rare Visit of Sake Brewery and the Owner's Traditional House in Shiga

Introduction

You'll visit 150-year old Sake Brewery located on the west side of Lake Biwa in Shiga prefecture, which is just one hour trip from Kyoto. You will be guided by the brewery owner and learn why this region produces one of the foremost sake. In addition to brewery, you'll have a chance to visit owner's traditional Japanese house with welcome Green tea and Japanese confectionery. In the evening, you'll pass night at a traditional guest house which has a sunken hearth( fireplace). Usually both brewery and guest house are not open to public, so it's a rare occasion, don't miss out!

This program offers you not only a chance to visit Sake Brewery but also a chance to learn Japanese traditional living including cooking and eating. The city is called as “Shozu no Sato” which literally means a village which gives birth to water. Local people has enjoyed pure-water from “Kabata” the sustainable underground water source from the Hira mountain range for ages. The aquifers are shared with the village so they too can utilize the benefits natural spring aquifers for cooking, drinking in their daily lives. We also offer you local food cooked on the traditional Japanese oven or open-hearth called “Kamado” or “Irori”.

3:00PM Extraordinary experience and introduction of the brewery owners, master Brewers
    • Tasting “Matsu no Hana”      • Green tea tasting     • Japanese Calligraphy lesson and personalized sake label
6:00PM Visit “Taraichi tei” a Japanese traditional farmer’s home
7:00PM Dinner prepared in your own pot of “game” meat complete with instructions.

Meeting Point

At Kawashima Sake Brewery in Takashima-city.
Take JR Kosei Line Express from Kyoto Station to Shin-Asahi (45 minutes). The brewery is eight minutes’ walk from Shin-Asahi station.

Cancellation Policy
Reservations may be cancelled without a charge up to 9 days prior to the program date.
Reservations cancelled before 8 days to the program date will incur the following charges:
- Between 8 days and 3 day before: 20% of the program charge
- 2 day prior to tour date: 50% of the program charge
- 1 day prior or on the day of event or no show: 100% of the program charge
